WikiLeaks has detailed three leaked hacking tools, Achilles, Aeris and SeaPea, used to target Mac OS X and POSIX systems.
The tools are allegedly part of a U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) project “Imperial.”
The Achilles tool can create trojanized OS X disk image installers (.dmg files), resulting in a legitimate application and malicious executable added by the user.
SeaPea is an OS X rootkit and Aeris is an implant designed to target Portable Operating System Interface for Unix (POSIX) systems (like Red Hat, Solaris, FreeBSD, etc.), SecurityWeek reports.
Apple’s OS X is also POSIX compliant.Â
