Equinix, a leader in global colocation data centers, disclosed it experienced a ransomware incident that affected internal systems.
However, the company said the incident did not affect data center customers.
Equinix described the incident in a post on their website on September 9:
“Equinix is currently investigating a security incident we detected that involves ransomware on some of our internal systems. Our teams took immediate and decisive action to address the incident, notified law enforcement and are continuing to investigate. Our data centers and our service offerings, including managed services, remain fully operational, and the incident has not affected our ability to support our customers. Note that as most customers operate their own equipment within Equinix data centers, this incident has had no impact on their operations or the data on their equipment at Equinix.”

The company also added “security is a top priority” and will update the post as appropriate.
This incident comes after a flurry of other high profile ransomware attacks, such as those at Carnival, Canon and Garmin, to name just a few.
Just last month, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also issued a Flash Alert warning for Netwalker Ransomware attacks against U.S. and foreign organizations.
