The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has issued the NIST SP 800-214 “2020 Cybersecurity and Privacy Annual Report.”
The Special Publication (SP) 800-214 describes the many cybersecurity program highlights and accomplishments from throughout the NIST Information Technology Laboratory (ITL).
NIST Chief Cybersecurity Advisor Robert Stine stated in the report:
This year’s annual report is grouped into nine priority areas for NIST, with most – but not all
NIST
– of the work being conducted by our Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) and in close
collaboration with the private and public sectors. While these represent areas that NIST believes
merit the bulk of our attention for the foreseeable future, the report also includes other specific
projects of importance that do not fit neatly into these buckets.
The nine priority focus areas in the report (PDF download) include:
- Cybersecurity Awareness and Education
- Identity and Access Management
- Metrics and Measurement
- Risk Management
- Privacy Engineering
- Emerging Technologies
- Cryptographic Standards and Validation
- Trustworthy Networks
- Trustworthy Platforms.
Each of the sections include cybersecurity recommendations, as well as references to more detailed and related NIST security guidelines.
