SNMP security guidance released

US-CERT released good security guidance, Reducing the Risk of SNMP Abuse, in a recent alert.

According to the US-CERT alert, the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) can be abused to gain unauthorized access to network devices.

SNMP is a popular protocol for network management used to collect and configure information on network devices, to include routers, switches, servers and printers.

Some of the best practices include a recommendation to use SNMPv3 along with management information base (MIB) whitelisting using SNMP views.
