Intel issues new Spectre/Meltdown patch guidance

Intel said the root cause of the reboot issues have been identified. To that end, the company said customers and partners should not install its current versions of Spectre/Meltdown patches rolled out earlier this month as they “may introduce higher than expected reboots and other unpredictable system behavior.”

The statement was targeting OEMs, cloud service providers, system manufacturers, software vendors and end users. 

Intel instead recommends industry partners to focus their efforts on testing early versions of the updated solution to help accelerate its release: “Over the weekend, we began rolling out an early version of the updated solution to industry partners for testing, and we will make a final release available once that testing has been completed.”  The company also encourages consumers to keep their systems up to date as well.
